What it is
The VITAMINS VITAMINS Keratin Hair Mask with Biotin & Collagen is a deep-conditioning treatment formulated to smooth and strengthen the hair shaft. It combines keratin—a structural protein naturally found in hair—with collagen and biotin to help restore a more resilient, manageable texture. At 3.4 oz, it's a full-sized treatment sized appropriately for regular use between washes.
Who it's for
This mask is best suited for people dealing with dryness, frizz, breakage, or hair that feels rough and porous after heat styling, chemical processing, or color treatment. Those with fine, straight hair that goes limp with heavy conditioning should start with a small amount to avoid weighing strands down. It is not a medical treatment for hair loss and is not a substitute for professional keratin straightening services—it's a rinse-out conditioning mask, not a bond-altering treatment.
How to use it
After shampooing, gently squeeze excess water from hair so the mask can absorb rather than dilute. Apply a generous amount from mid-length to ends, which are the most porous and damaged sections. For fine hair, avoid the roots. Leave on for three to five minutes—or up to ten for very dry or coarse hair—then rinse thoroughly with cool water to help seal the cuticle. Use once or twice a week in place of your regular conditioner, or as a weekly add-on if you have particularly dry or chemically treated hair. In a standard routine, this sits after shampoo and before any leave-in treatments or styling products.
Key ingredients
Keratin is a fibrous structural protein that makes up the bulk of each hair strand. When applied topically, hydrolyzed keratin (broken into smaller fragments) can temporarily fill gaps and chips in a damaged cuticle, reducing roughness and frizz and improving the hair's ability to reflect light. It does not permanently restructure the hair bond the way a salon keratin treatment does, but it provides meaningful surface-level repair with repeated use.
Collagen, also in hydrolyzed form in cosmetic products, functions as a conditioning and film-forming agent. It coats the hair shaft to add slip and softness, making detangling easier and helping to minimize mechanical damage from brushing. It also contributes moisture retention, which supports overall elasticity.
Biotin is a B-complex vitamin. Topical biotin in hair products is primarily a conditioning ingredient; its well-documented role in hair health relates to dietary intake rather than scalp absorption. That said, it can contribute to the overall formulation's texture and feel.
Pros & cons
- Well-reviewed: Rated 4.4 out of 5 stars across more than 18,000 reviews, indicating consistent satisfaction across a large user base.
- Targets structural damage: The keratin and collagen combination addresses porosity and frizz at the cuticle level, not just surface softness.
- Convenient format: A rinse-out mask fits easily into an existing wash routine without adding a multi-step process.
- Broadly compatible: Works on color-treated, heat-styled, or naturally dry hair types without a fragrance or formula profile that typically causes conflict with other products.
- Temporary results: Like all rinse-out treatments, the smoothing effect is not permanent and requires consistent reapplication.
- Not a growth treatment: Despite containing biotin, there is no credible evidence that topical application drives measurable hair growth or prevents shedding—shoppers expecting that outcome may be disappointed.
- May be too heavy for fine hair: Those with thin or low-porosity hair may find the mask creates buildup or limpness if used too frequently or applied to the roots.
How it compares
If dryness and breakage are your primary concerns, a multi-step approach can extend the results of a conditioning mask. Mielle Organics Rosemary & Mint Strengthening Hair Oil works well layered after this mask as a leave-in sealant on damp hair, adding nourishment between wash days. For those whose scalp health is also a factor—buildup or tension that can contribute to mechanical breakage—pairing the mask with a dedicated pre-wash or in-shower scalp tool like the HEETA Scalp Massager Shampoo Brush can improve circulation and help shampoo lift product buildup before the mask is applied, allowing better absorption.
The verdict
The VITAMINS VITAMINS Keratin Hair Mask is a solid, straightforward weekly treatment for anyone dealing with dry, frizzy, or damage-prone hair. Its combination of hydrolyzed keratin and collagen provides real, if temporary, improvement to cuticle smoothness and manageability—and the scale of positive ratings suggests the formula delivers a consistent experience for most hair types. It is not a miracle growth treatment, a permanent smoothing service, or a solution for significant hair loss, but used regularly as part of a balanced routine, it does what a good conditioning mask should: leaves hair softer, easier to detangle, and more resistant to daily friction and styling stress.
What shoppers say
Shoppers with dry, over-processed, or frizzy hair consistently report dramatic softness and shine improvements, sometimes after just two or three uses. Many say it outperformed pricier salon treatments, and appreciate that the formula feels rich without weighing hair down. The light, pleasant scent gets frequent praise from satisfied buyers.
The biggest caveat is fragrance — a notable minority find it overwhelmingly strong and persistent, describing it as cloying floral. If you're sensitive to scented products, this one may be a dealbreaker regardless of performance. The small jar size also means heavy users burn through it quickly.
This stuff is ahhhmazing! I've outlined my specific starting point and results for anyone who might be looking for a solution to my same issues. So to preface, I have layered hair that goes halfway down my back. My hair is what I like to call "electrocuted poodle" meaning it's not curly, it's not straight, it's....wavyfrizz. That being said I'm pretty darn skilled at making it look nice and smooth and then curling it. However after years of flat irons and coloring it (both bleaching and dying) and living in a really dry climate, I had some damage. Not severe but my hair had split ends, was really dry, broke really easy, shed a TON and had NO shine to it. I quit having the highlights put in, and have been giving it an all over color that is close to my natural color now for months. So I've been on the hunt and trying different products (both professional and consumer) in combination to see what worked. I think I finally hit my hair treatment combo jackpot. I started out with just this product and could see and feel a difference after only one use. I use it twice a week (as that's how often I wash my hair with shampoo/conditioner) and ONLY put it on the ends, if you go up to roots it's too much and weighed my hair down as your natural oils protect that area fairly well. So I went halfway down my hair and used per directions leaving it in a few minutes while I shaved, etc. If you need to hit your roots with conditioner I'd suggest using your normal conditioner up top and this product below. I then added another product just to help with the thinning/shedding a little bit which is the PURA D'OR Hair Thinning Therapy Biotin Shampoo but honestly you don't need that to get the results I got from this deep conditioner alone. After a few uses I trimmed my split ends and continued using the product. My hair has no new split ends, is no longer dry and MAN is it shiny and silky smooth. I wish you could feel it from the picture but just know that it's now so soft and shiny that it could be in a hair care product commercial. :) Honestly I will always have this product in my shower now. I had been through several other treatments and while I did see some improvement they were mild compared to what this did for my hair. I'm a BIG fan. Hope this helps someone else on their hair journey too.
Read on Amazon ↗Y'all, THIS IS IT!! I've always paid top dollar for conditioning treatments that promised to do this and that for my hair. Yeah, they worked, but they weren't living up to all of the hype. After searching on Amazon for about an hour, reading many reviews, I finally decided to try this one and boy I'm glad I did! The scent of this treatment was the first thing I noticed. I can only compare it to a men's body wash or some kind of men's shampoo - it's smells amazing! Secondly, the product is thick and goes on your hair so smooth, it's definitely feels like it's absorbing and working! (I decided to purchase a hair turban wrap thing to use after showering to keep my hair up while it's deep conditioning - this idea was perfect for this product!) After applying about half a palm size amount to my entire head, I put up in a hair wrap and let it sit for about 15-20 minutes. Keep in mind, I already shampooed and conditioned my hair in the shower, so I put this on after conditioning. After letting it sit, I washed it out in the kitchen sink and OH EM GEE Y'ALL!! My hair was so soft, smelled intoxicating and looked so moisturized, shiny, touchably soft, and healthy, I couldn't stop touching it! I use hot tools every day, so my hair was very thirsty and brittle. After using this treatment and blow drying, it looked so healthy and was definitely more manageable. I will be using this treatment 2-3 times a week from now on and I will for sure be purchasing more tubs, so I have a stockpile! You won't regret buying this product and your hair will thank you for it, I promise!
Read on Amazon ↗I’m so impressed with the VITAMINS Keratin Hair Mask! It deeply nourishes and repairs my dry, damaged hair, leaving it soft, smooth, and shiny after just a few uses. The formula is rich but not heavy, and it smells lovely without being overpowering. My hair feels stronger and healthier, and the frizz is much more manageable. Highly recommend if you want a professional-quality keratin treatment at home!
Read on Amazon ↗This conditioner works very well and leaves my hair feeling great. Unfortunately, the scent is so overpowering that I had to throw it out. It's unusable unless you want to smell like overpowering old lady floral perfume medicine. The scent doesn't wear off and is incredibly strong, strong enough to fill a large room. It's honestly embarrassing to be out in public after using it. I literally smell like someone that dumped an entire bottle of fragrance over my head. I usually make it a few hours before I need to rinse my hair with another conditioner to get rid of the strong smell. I finally gave up and tossed it.
Read on Amazon ↗This product saved my hair! I over processed my hair and thought I was going to have to cut it all off. It was stretching when wet and felt like the end of a broom when it was dry. After using this only 3 times my hair is healthier than before I started. I do leave it on overnight, then rinse in the morning. Not a huge fan of the smell, but with the results it's giving me, I can deal with it. Worth every penny!

VITAMINS Keratin Hair Mask with Biotin & Collagen 3.4 oz: frequently asked questions
What is the VITAMINS VITAMINS Keratin Hair Mask with Biotin & Collagen?
This is a deep-conditioning treatment mask formulated with keratin protein, biotin, and collagen to help smooth, strengthen, and soften hair. The 3.4 oz size makes it practical for regular at-home use. It targets dryness and damage, leaving hair more manageable after rinsing.
Is a keratin hair mask with biotin and collagen good for hair?
Yes, for most hair types. Keratin helps reinforce the hair shaft and reduce frizz, collagen adds moisture and elasticity, and biotin supports overall hair health. Together they work well as a conditioning treatment for dry, damaged, or chemically treated hair. Results vary depending on your hair's starting condition and how consistently you use it.
Who should not use a keratin hair mask?
Anyone with a known allergy to any ingredient in the formula should avoid it. People with very fine, limp hair may find a rich mask weighs strands down — start with a shorter leave-on time and focus application on mid-lengths to ends rather than the scalp. Those with a sensitive or oily scalp should also keep the product away from roots.
How often should I use this mask?
Once or twice a week is a good starting point for dry or damaged hair. If your hair is relatively healthy, once a week or even every other week is enough to maintain softness without buildup. Overusing any protein-rich treatment can cause stiffness or breakage over time, so pay attention to how your hair responds.
Do collagen and biotin actually help hair growth?
Collagen provides amino acids that support keratin production, and biotin is a B-vitamin linked to hair strength — but a topical mask delivers these ingredients to the surface of the strand, not the follicle. Measurable growth benefits primarily come from ingestible supplements, not rinse-out treatments. This mask is best understood as a conditioning tool that improves texture and reduces breakage, which can help hair appear fuller over time.
Which is better for thinning hair — collagen or biotin?
They work differently: collagen helps maintain the structural protein around hair follicles and adds plumpness to strands, while biotin supports the keratin infrastructure inside the hair itself. For thinning hair, pairing scalp stimulation with conditioning treatments tends to be more effective than relying on one ingredient alone. A tool like a HEETA Scalp Massager Shampoo Brush can complement your mask routine by improving circulation at the scalp.
How do I use this mask for best results?
Apply to clean, towel-dried hair after shampooing, focusing on mid-lengths and ends. Leave on for 3–5 minutes (or up to 10 for very dry hair), then rinse thoroughly with cool water to help seal the cuticle. For a deeper treatment, cover with a shower cap and apply gentle heat for a few minutes before rinsing.
