What it is

The SKIN1004 Centella Probio-Cica Bakuchiol Eye Cream is a K-beauty eye treatment that pairs retinol with a centella asiatica (cica) base, positioning itself as an anti-aging formula that attempts to address wrinkles and sensitivity simultaneously. The "Probio-Cica" name points to a probiotic-infused cica complex designed to buffer the eye area while the retinol works. It comes in a 20ml jar — a standard size for a dedicated eye cream.

What makes this formulation interesting is that it leans on two ingredients that don't always coexist comfortably: a proven anti-aging active in retinol and a calming botanical in centella. Whether that balance holds up depends heavily on the concentrations used, which SKIN1004 does not disclose publicly.

Who it's for

This eye cream suits adults concerned with fine lines, crow's feet, and dryness around the eye contour who want to incorporate retinol but are wary of irritation. The centella component makes it a reasonable starting point for those with mildly reactive skin who have been curious about retinol at the eye area.

It is not recommended for people who are pregnant or breastfeeding, as retinol is generally avoided during these periods. Those with active eczema, rosacea flares, or a known sensitivity to retinoids should approach carefully or skip it. If you've experienced stinging or milia from jar-format eye creams in the past, the packaging here presents the same concern.

How to use it

Apply a small amount — a grain-of-rice portion is sufficient — to the orbital bone using your ring finger, tapping gently rather than rubbing. Because it contains retinol, evening use is strongly preferred; retinol degrades with UV exposure and can make skin more photosensitive. Layer it after any water-based serums have absorbed but before a heavier face moisturizer if you use one.

If you are new to retinol eye products, start two to three nights per week and build up to nightly use over four to six weeks. Pair it with a broad-spectrum SPF around the eye area in the morning as standard retinol protocol. Do not apply directly on the lash line or inner corner.

Key ingredients

Retinol is the workhorse here. It is one of the most well-researched topical ingredients in cosmetic dermatology, shown to support collagen synthesis, accelerate cell turnover, and soften the appearance of fine lines with consistent use over several months. At the eye contour — where skin is thinner — concentration and formulation context matter more than anywhere else on the face.

Centella asiatica (cica) contributes asiaticoside and madecassoside compounds, which have established soothing and barrier-supporting properties. In this formula, cica serves a dual function: calming any retinol-induced reactivity and helping maintain hydration in a zone prone to transepidermal water loss.

The probiotic component is included to support the skin microbiome and reinforce barrier resilience, a common addition in modern K-beauty formulations. Well-established cosmetic science supports postbiotics and fermented ingredients for barrier function, though specific efficacy varies by strain and concentration.

Pros & cons

  • Strong shopper validation — rated 4.4 out of 5 across more than 3,500 reviews, which is meaningful signal for a targeted eye product.
  • Combines retinol's anti-aging action with centella's calming effect in a single step.
  • Addresses three distinct concerns — dryness, fine lines, and sensitivity — without requiring multiple products.
  • Formulated within a K-beauty framework that typically prioritizes skin comfort alongside efficacy.
  • Jar packaging exposes the formula to air, light, and repeated finger contact, which can degrade retinol over time — a meaningful trade-off.
  • Retinol concentration is undisclosed, making it difficult to gauge potency or compare to other retinol eye products.
  • The 20ml size will run out faster for twice-daily users.
  • Requires a slow introduction period, which delays visible results by several weeks.

How it compares

This cream is category-specific in a way that general face moisturizers are not. The COSRX Snail Mucin 92% Face Moisturizer is a popular hydration option often used near the eye area by those who prefer a single moisturizer, but it contains no retinol and is not formulated with the thinner periorbital skin in mind. If fine lines are your primary concern and you want a dedicated treatment rather than general hydration, SKIN1004's eye cream has a clearer anti-aging rationale. Conversely, if your main goal is plumping and calming without introducing a retinoid, the snail mucin formula is a lower-friction choice.

The verdict

The SKIN1004 Centella Probio-Cica Bakuchiol Eye Cream is a thoughtfully layered formula for shoppers ready to add retinol to their eye-area routine but not ready to give up on comfort. The centella base is a genuine plus, not just a marketing footnote — it gives this product a reasonable claim to being gentler than a straight retinol eye cream. That said, jar packaging is a real concern for retinol stability, and anyone expecting fast results will need patience. For a consistent, committed user with mild-to-moderate fine lines and some sensitivity, it earns its strong rating. For sensitive-skin beginners or those pregnant or nursing, look elsewhere first.

What shoppers say

★ 4.4average from 3.5k ratings on Amazon

Shoppers consistently praise this eye cream for being unusually gentle—several note it's the first formula that didn't cause stinging or watering, even for those who had given up on eye creams entirely. Fans of the brand highlight its fragrance-free formula, solid hydration, and pregnancy-safe ingredient profile, and some find it performs even better layered under a separate eye serum.

The main frustration isn't with the formula itself: at least one buyer expected two tubes based on the lead product image and felt misled by the listing. A few shoppers also note results feel modest when used solo, suggesting it works best as part of a broader routine rather than a standalone treatment.

My go to brand for Centella Asticia

SKIN1004 is one of my favorite picks for centella asticia products. I switched to them during my pregnancy when I found a lot of their items were safe to use and still provided anti-aging benefits, and were also really hydrating. This specific series is my favorite, and I've got the toner, serum, and now the eye cream with bakuchiol. I'm a huge fan of bakuchiol products because it provides the results of retinol but with a more gentle approach. I've tried retinol and tretinoin, but I always prefer and go back to bakuciol, and even better if it has centella. My theory is that it is better to focus on daily skin care that is very hydrating to eliminate the fine lines and wrinkles, so it doesn't need to be a stronger product if you use it every single day. Bakuciol does not cause flaking, dry patches, or dry eyes, which is why it is a safer alternative, and I feel like it suits my combination skin better as well. This eye cream comes with a rounded applicator so you can spread the product and massage around the eye area, and to access this tip, you just pop the lid off. If you don't want to use that applicator, you can open the product by twisting, which keeps the applicator tip in the cap, and you can just squeeze the product out normally, which is a really cool dual feature. I love how this product is also fragrance free, I get headaches easily when products are too scented so this is perfect for me. I would definitely recommend trying this!

Finally found eye cream for sensitive eyes

I’ve tried a lot of eye creams. They always make my eyes burn or water. Even the ones labeled as super sensitive. I stopped using eye creams because of my eyes hurting. On a whim I bought this after reading reviews. It is AMAZING! Doesn’t burn my eyes or make them water throughout the day. Best is I can feel the difference in my eye area. Has more moisture. Feels great and makeup goes over it well. So glad I found it.

Two tubes eye product shown in first picture

Haven’t tried the product yet, but I absolutely love this brand. My issue is why is there two tubes shown in the first picture? That’s what I assumed I was receiving. Didn’t read the listing to see that it was only one item. Regardless it’s a good price, just disappointed when I opened and received one tube.

Keeps your undereye healthy!

There has been many eye creams I have tried since I was a teenager, some very expensive and some drugstore and nothing has come as close to the results I look for than Skin1004's eye cream. I have hereditary under eye darkness and started getting some fine lines. I don't expect any eye cream to erase my dark undereye, but I expect it to help with dark circles that come from fatigue and stress and help moisturize under the eye as well. I have noticed from using this product my undereye feel cool, moisturized, protected and soothed. My fine lines aren't as noticeable and are getting less visible. It's very lightweight, application is very easy; the applicator is great. The ingredients are always great when SKIN1004 makes it.

Better when paired with beauty of joseon

I really like this eye cream. It does leave the eye moisturized. It has no fragrance. I do not use the applicator directly onto the eyelids. I just use my fingers. I was using it alone for a couple of weeks. Then I recently used the beauty of joseon eye serum, and found that it decreased the lines around my eyes much better than the eye cream alone. I am curious to try other eye creams so perhaps I’ll try others over time and then get back to you all. In the meantime, I think this is a good option. I believe some other products from this same brand are sourced from third-party vendors, but this product specifically, is from the skin 1004 company and shipped by amazon. Good to buy when you are busy. I would say the quantity lasts around 3 to 5 months.

SKIN1004 Centella Probio-Cica Bakuchiol Eye Cream 20ml: frequently asked questions

What does the SKIN1004 Probio-Cica Bakuchiol eye cream do?

This eye cream layers three active systems in one step: bakuchiol (a plant-derived retinol alternative) supports cell renewal to soften fine lines; Madagascar Centella asiatica calms redness and strengthens the skin barrier; and probiotic ferments help maintain moisture balance. The result is a gentle, multi-tasking formula aimed at dryness, early wrinkles, and sensitivity around the delicate eye area.

Is SKIN1004 bakuchiol eye cream good for sensitive skin?

It's a strong pick for sensitive skin types. Bakuchiol doesn't cause the peeling or photosensitivity associated with retinol, and the cica and probiotic blend actively works to soothe reactive skin. The lightweight texture absorbs cleanly without tugging. One honest caveat: it's better suited to early fine lines and hydration than to deep-set wrinkles, where a denser cream may be needed alongside it.

Can I use bakuchiol eye cream every day?

Yes — bakuchiol is well-tolerated for both AM and PM daily use, which sets it apart from traditional retinol. Apply a small amount by gently patting around the orbital bone after toner and before heavier moisturizer. Because it doesn't increase sun sensitivity, there's no need to limit it to nighttime, though daily SPF is still essential in your morning routine.

Does bakuchiol work as well as retinol?

Peer-reviewed studies show bakuchiol can produce comparable improvements in fine lines, firmness, and uneven tone to low-to-mid-strength retinol, with significantly less irritation. It works more gradually than prescription-strength retinoids, so consistent use over six to twelve weeks is needed to assess real results. For the eye area specifically, where skin is thin and reactive, that gentler pace is often preferable.

What are the downsides of bakuchiol?

The main trade-off is speed: bakuchiol acts more slowly than stronger retinoids, so patience is required. Applying too much product too close to the lash line can also cause milia (small under-skin bumps) regardless of the formula, so a grain-of-rice amount patted gently is the right technique. Long-term clinical data on bakuchiol is still more limited than the decades of research behind retinol.

What should you not mix with this eye cream?

Bakuchiol pairs well with most actives — vitamin C, niacinamide, and peptides are all compatible. The key thing to avoid is layering this product with a separate retinol eye cream in the same routine, which could tip the balance from gentle to irritating. If you use strong acid exfoliants near the eye area, alternate them on different nights rather than applying both at once.

Why is bakuchiol preferred over retinol around the eyes?

The skin beneath and around the eyes is thinner and more reactive than the rest of the face, making classic retinol a common source of flaking, redness, and stinging in that zone. Bakuchiol delivers similar collagen-supporting signals without those side effects, and it's safe to use morning and night. For anyone who has had to abandon retinol eye products due to irritation, this type of formula is a practical alternative.
