Naturium Azelaic Acid Emulsion 10% with Niacinamide, 1 oz

I bought this product after a youtube derm laid into this company's products. This was the only product she said she did consistently use, and could recommend. The derm did say that they use a 15% for rosacea and was unsure of how effective the 10% formula would be. For me, this has been a life saver. My rosacea flares up in heat and humidity, so living in the south this is a real problem. The flares are often pustules and red flaky skin that lasts for a week. I have used this product for 3 weeks, and the one potential flare was lessened greatly since using this product. I like that is has no fragrance, cruelty free, a pump dispenser, very budget friendly, and has not irritated my skin. I did not even have the usual hormonal breakout this month and I attribute that to this product. I also use Naturium's vitamin c and that product has the same pros, but I am unsure of the efficacy. I will continue using this product as my skin has cleared, and I am hoping to see lightening of my dark spots with continued use. **Edit 2022** Used the whole bottle. I found my skin did best when used every other night. Melasma spots dramatically faded and my rosacea calmed. I ran out and it was out of stock, so I ordered the Azelaic Acid Serum from Naturium, thinking it would yield similar results. The product was okay, did not like the dropper applicator, and my skin did not tolerate that formulation, it caused breakouts and irritation. So back to the emulsion I went and again my skin is happy. Sticking with this formula.

If you end up with perioral or periorbital dermatitis, you'll find out that it's considered difficult to treat and can takes months to resolve. Derms often prescribe an antibiotic or antifungal. One other option derms will sometime prescribe is azelaic acid. I decided to try this in OTC strength since there was a wait to get a derm appt. I used this lotion 3-4x/day on my dermatitis and 2/x all over my face, and within days, I could see some improvement in the dermatitis. It still took a while to completely go away (3-4 weeks), but it finally resolved, and I felt there was some improvement in my rosacea & skin tone as well, so now this product is part of my routine. I also gave some to my mom & daughter, and both have asked for more. I've bought many bottles at this point for myself and various family members. This also can cause some flushing/tingling/burning, especially on the neck (which in many people is extra sensitive) or even on facial skin, especially if the skin barrier is damaged. When I use it on my neck, I dilute it with extra moisturizer. Some other notes: This product has EWG friendly ingredients which I consider a plus. The bottle is a little annoying because you can't see when you're running low, so I always make sure to have my next bottle on hand.

I was very skeptical about using an “acid” on my dry, sensitive, rosacea-prone skin. I was afraid it would irritate. But after a recent outbreak of rosacea, I did a lot of research and decided to try Azelaic Acid. I picked this brand because it also contains niacinamide, which calms irritated skin. I washed my face with a gentle cleanser the first night, then added this product and waited 30 minutes before applying moisturizer because I’ve read it’s not effective to let azaleic acid sink in before using moisturizer. When I woke up, I could feel that my rosacea had improved. The next night I did the same routine and now my rosacea is about 80% cleared! I am AMAZED!! I do find it drying, so moisturizer is a must. My skin feels incredibly smooth and, as I said, the rosacea is almost gone. I cannot believe how well this has worked and I will be using this product for as long as they make it!!!

I have been using Naturium azelaic acid for a few weeks and I am very satisfied with the results. My skin was prone to acne and had some dark spots, but since I started using this product, I have noticed a great improvement. Skin type: 40s, dry, rosacea, sensitized to essential oils. I, like many of us who are aging, experience dullness and loss of effectiveness for skincare products due to dead skin cells hanging out longer than they’re welcome. With rosacea, your typical AHAs and BHAs are not something you should use, they’re just too harsh and irritating. But physical exfoliation is also too harsh, it’s very easy to accidentally wipe too hard, even the gentlest Buf-Puf or konjac has the potential to mess your skin up. What’s a gal to do? I’d heard constantly azlaic is the way to go with sensitive rosacea skin, but when I was looking in Canada, it wasn’t available OTC - though this changed without my knowledge in 2022. When I moved back to the USA, I began looking into it as an OTC while finding a job with insurance. I’m very impressed by this product. The first time I used it, the next day my rosacea flared pretty badly. I was dismayed as I hadn’t had a flare that bad since I quit drinking. I persisted, because of all the folks online raving about azelaic acid and the benefits they’ve seen while using it. I had initially ordered a different product and didn’t think to read the ingredients. When I got it, I discovered lavender oil was in it. I’m allergic to the point exposure typically requires cortisone to heal. It’s so irresponsible to put essential oils in skincare products, once you’re sensitized you can’t go back. But this product’s ingredient list is clean from essential oils. So, even if the price point is higher, I opted to purchase this product on a gamble to try to help my skin feel and look better. I’ve used this 5 times. I used it every 3 days for 4 treatments, then I got sick and my raw nose made me worried it would sting like crazy and end up with a chemical burn. I tentatively used it again last night, but did not experience any stinging and I didn’t wake up to a bright red nose. What have I noticed in 5 uses? My skincare products are more effective, which was the primary goal. I can feel smoother skin, which is a chicken or the egg, but regardless, my skin feels nicer to the touch. But what I’ve really noticed is that my rosacea is a lot calmer. I was genuinely not expecting a quick response beyond skin cell turnover. An odd darker patch on my nose is visibly lighter, I’ve been concerned about it for a while and I’m happy to see it is lighter. I’m not imagining it either, it’s dramatically different. I’m not saying this is for all rosacea sufferers - it does have a plant extract that used as an alternative to retinol (which I have avoided due to knowing it can be very irritating for those with rosacea), and this may not work for you. I am not a dermatologist. For me, I am currently fine with this product’s formulation. I do have a referral for a derm and I’m looking forward to continuing to improve my skin. As is standard, but especially when using acids as part of your skincare routine: WEAR SUNSCREEN. Trust me, it’s not worth it to forget. Find one that works well for you and use it religiously. It’s the number one thing you can do for better skin, for life. Even if you haven’t been using it, the sooner you start, the more damage you prevent and lower your risk of skin cancer. This goes for everyone including those with melanin! Be careful with and kind to your skin, it’s the only skin you’ll ever have.
