What it is
EQQUALBERRY's Bakuchiol Plumping Face Serum is a 1 oz evening treatment that brings together three well-established actives—retinol, hyaluronic acid, and niacinamide—to address fine lines, dehydration, and uneven skin tone in a single step. The bakuchiol callout in the name reflects a gentler-approach positioning: bakuchiol is a plant-derived ingredient frequently used alongside retinol to soften the adaptation period. With a 4.4-out-of-5 rating drawn from roughly 3,000 shopper reviews, this serum has built a meaningful track record across a broad user base.
Who it's for
This serum is best suited to normal, dry, and combination skin types dealing with early-to-moderate fine lines, persistent dullness, or dehydration. The niacinamide and hyaluronic acid in the formula help buffer the potential irritation that retinol can cause, making it a reasonable starting point for those who have found straight retinol too aggressive in the past. People with very reactive or rosacea-prone skin should patch test before committing to regular use. Pregnant or nursing individuals should avoid retinol-containing products entirely and consult a healthcare provider before use.
How to use it
Apply in the evening, after cleansing and any water-based toner, before your moisturizer. Use a pea-sized amount warmed between fingertips, then press gently across the face, avoiding the immediate eye area. Begin with two to three nights per week to allow skin to acclimate to the retinol, then increase frequency as tolerance builds. Because retinol increases photosensitivity, apply a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher every morning without exception.
Key ingredients
- Retinol: A vitamin A derivative backed by decades of research. It speeds up cell turnover, which over time softens the appearance of fine lines and helps fade uneven pigmentation. Results take consistent use—typically six to twelve weeks—to become visible.
- Hyaluronic Acid: A humectant that pulls moisture toward the skin's surface. Depending on molecular weight, it can hydrate both upper and deeper epidermal layers, contributing to the plumper, more supple look the product name references.
- Niacinamide: Vitamin B3 in its skin-active form. It reinforces the skin barrier, helps minimize the appearance of pores, and works to even skin tone—while also helping to offset some of the dryness and mild irritation that retinol can trigger during the adjustment phase.
Pros & cons
- Pro: Three clinically recognized actives targeting multiple concerns in one evening formula
- Pro: Niacinamide helps buffer retinol sensitivity, making the formula more approachable
- Pro: Hyaluronic acid addresses dehydration alongside the anti-aging actives
- Pro: Large reviewer base and a strong average rating suggest broad real-world tolerability
- Con: Retinol requires a gradual introduction—daily use from day one is not recommended
- Con: Off-limits during pregnancy and nursing
- Con: Very sensitive or rosacea-prone skin may still experience flaking or redness during adaptation
- Con: At 1 oz, the bottle may not last long once nightly use is established
How it compares
If your primary goal is daytime brightening and antioxidant defense rather than retinol-driven renewal, the TruSkin Vitamin C Serum with Hyaluronic Acid & Vitamin E is a morning-friendly alternative that pairs vitamin C with hyaluronic acid for oxidative protection and a more radiant complexion—without any sun-sensitivity concerns. For those who want focused hydration without the complexity of a retinol formula, the Tree of Life Hyaluronic Acid Serum for Face keeps the ingredient list lean and is an easier entry point for reactive or compromised skin.
The verdict
The EQQUALBERRY Bakuchiol Plumping Face Serum is a practical multi-tasker for anyone ready to add a retinol step to their evening routine without giving up on hydration and tone-evening support. The combination of retinol, hyaluronic acid, and niacinamide is well-reasoned: each ingredient earns its place and they work in a complementary way. The strong ratings from a sizable reviewer pool add credibility. The honest caveats are the ones that apply to any retinol product—you need patience, a slow build-up, and diligent morning SPF use. Approach it that way and it stands up as a solid, purposeful evening serum for addressing fine lines, dullness, and dehydration together.
What shoppers say
Shoppers consistently praise the texture—thicker than a typical serum, closer to a light moisturizer, yet it absorbs cleanly without residue. Most note it's gentle enough for sensitive skin with zero irritation, making it a comfortable daily retinol swap. Several users report noticeably softer, more hydrated skin within days, and a few saw fine lines diminish after finishing a full bottle.
The main caveat: the serum's appearance inside the bottle looks murky or gritty, which has initially put some buyers off—though reviewers say it feels smooth on application. Significant anti-aging results seem to require consistent, long-term use rather than quick results.
I really liked this serum. It's not really runny. It's thick and when I put it on my face it does not run down. It has the consistency of a light moisturizer. I've have bought it twice and found it to not have a strong scent. I plan on continuing to purchase it. Anytime I've purchased bakuchiol products the bakuchiol comes in little white balls mixed into the product. When you apply it to your skin they dissolve as you rub it in. This product does the same. It does not contain retinal so you can apply it in the morning or night. I use retinal before bed because it can react in the sun. The bakuchiol is safe to use before going outside. My skin does not feel sticky after I let the product sink in, especially after applying my moisturizer. I like how my skin looks immediately after I apply it and over time I feel it has made a difference and it has been effective. I have normal skin. Not too oily and not too dry. Also not overly sensitive but I'm careful about what I use. I'm 55 with a few lines. I can even put on a sunscreen after the moisturizer. You just have to let the products dry and sink in before applying the next. I feel it's a good value for the money and a great quality product. I wish it came in a larger size.
Read on Amazon ↗Gentle and effective! This face serum feels light, absorbs well, and leaves skin soft and smooth. Great natural alternative to retinol—no irritation, perfect for sensitive skin. Skin looks fresher and hydrated.
Read on Amazon ↗I bought this product less than a week ago and I’m already obsessed. I was a little skeptical at first when I looked at the bottle, the color and the contents inside. I figured it would feel gritty based on how the texture looks inside the bottle but I was so very pleasantly surprised!!! The texture going on the skin is delightful! I swear my skin feels plumper immediately after putting it on. It really just leaves my face feeling so nice and silky. My sensitive skin has been really happy with it as well! The scent is light but enjoyable. Overall very happy with the product value for the money. Can’t wait to see what the long term results are!
Read on Amazon ↗I saw a bunch of reviews on YT and one talked about brands that are actually used in Korean vers brands that are made just for the US market.. this brand was one and they specifically talked about this serum. I lucked out that it happened to be on sale one day so I grabbed a bottle to try and I was so very pleasantly suprised! This stuff really works as a replacement for retinal - my skin tends to be a bit on the sensitive side but this not only worked but also never made me red or made the skin look irritated or "burned" like some retinal versions have. It's a very lovely serum - it only takes a pearl size for my face. The bottle is going to last ages. Give it a try - it's now my go to anti age serum.
Read on Amazon ↗I wanted to wait until I finished the bottle to write a review. I had two very fine and faint lines on my forehead when I started using this product. I applied this every night after my shower and the lines are completely gone now. The quality is an amazing and I had no skin irritation which is great because I have sensitive skin. I also noticed the patch of dry skin on my nose that I’ve had for years and no other product has helped is completely healed. I highly recommend!

EQQUALBERRY Bakuchiol Plumping Face Serum 1oz: frequently asked questions
What does EQQUALBERRY Bakuchiol Plumping Serum do?
This multi-tasking serum targets the three most common early-aging concerns in one step: dehydration, fine lines, and uneven tone. It combines bakuchiol and retinol for cell-turnover support, niacinamide to brighten and even skin tone, and hyaluronic acid to pull moisture into skin for a visibly plumper look.
The 1 oz formula is lightweight enough to layer under moisturizer and is designed for consistent daily use rather than overnight dramatic results.
Does EQQUALBERRY Bakuchiol Serum actually work?
The formula stacks four actives — bakuchiol, retinol, niacinamide, and hyaluronic acid — each with meaningful research behind them. That's a genuinely solid lineup for addressing dryness, dullness, and fine lines. Most users notice improved hydration within the first week or two; texture and tone improvements typically take 4–8 weeks of consistent use.
Results depend on starting skin condition and frequency of application. It won't replace a dermatologist-grade retinoid for advanced wrinkles, but as a daily maintenance serum it covers a lot of ground.
Is it okay to use bakuchiol every day?
Bakuchiol on its own is gentle enough for daily use and is far less likely to cause the redness or peeling associated with retinoids. However, because this serum also contains retinol, it's smart to start with every-other-night use and build up as your skin adjusts.
Once your skin has acclimated — usually after 2–3 weeks — most people can use it nightly. Follow with a moisturizer to support the skin barrier, and use SPF every morning when using any retinol-containing product.
What should you not mix with bakuchiol?
Bakuchiol is one of the more compatible actives in skincare, but because this serum already contains retinol, avoid layering it with other retinoids or high-strength exfoliating acids (AHAs, BHAs) in the same routine — stacking too many actives increases the risk of irritation and barrier disruption.
If you also want vitamin C for brightening, use it in the morning and reserve this serum for your evening routine. A dedicated vitamin C option like TruSkin Vitamin C Serum with Hyaluronic Acid & Vitamin E works well as an AM counterpart.
Is bakuchiol really as good as retinol?
Small but credible clinical studies show bakuchiol can produce comparable improvements in fine lines and skin texture to retinol, with significantly fewer side effects. The body of evidence for retinol is much larger — decades of research — so bakuchiol isn't a proven equal, especially against prescription-strength retinoids.
EQQUALBERRY's serum sidesteps the debate by including both, giving you the gentler plant-derived option alongside a classic retinoid in a single formula. That's a reasonable approach if you want retinol-level results with a lower chance of irritation.
Do dermatologists recommend bakuchiol?
Yes — many board-certified dermatologists now recommend bakuchiol, particularly for people with sensitive skin, rosacea, or those who've experienced retinol-related irritation. Its anti-inflammatory properties and ability to support collagen synthesis make it a legitimate addition to an anti-aging routine.
That said, derms typically note that bakuchiol is not a drop-in replacement for prescription retinoids like tretinoin for significant photo-aging. For mild to moderate concerns — the dryness, dullness, and early fine lines this serum targets — it's a well-supported choice.
