What it is

The CLIO Kill Lash Superproof Waterproof Mascara in 001 Long Curling is a Korean-beauty mascara engineered to lengthen, curl, and hold lashes through humidity, sweat, and long wear. CLIO's "Superproof" line is formulated to resist smudging and flaking under conditions that defeat many Western drugstore formulas. The 001 shade is a pure black finish designed to maximize lash definition from root to tip.

Who it's for

This mascara suits anyone who needs long-lasting, smudge-resistant wear — think commuters in humid climates, contact-lens wearers prone to fallout irritation, or people with oily lids who find standard waterproof mascaras sliding by midday. The lengthening-and-curling focus makes it a strong choice for straight or downward-pointing lashes that resist hold. Who should skip it: If you prefer a volumizing, ultra-thick effect over length, this formula may not deliver the drama you want. Because it is waterproof, it also requires an oil-based or dedicated eye-makeup remover — those with very sensitive eyes who find thorough removal irritating may want a gentler, non-waterproof alternative.

How to use it

Start with clean, dry lashes — any residual moisturizer or eye cream on the lash line can compromise adhesion. Curl lashes with a mechanical curler before application if desired. Begin the wand at the base of the upper lashes and use a gentle zigzag motion as you sweep upward to the tips; this distributes product evenly and lifts the curl. One coat delivers a natural-to-polished look; a second coat, applied before the first is fully dry, builds additional length. Apply to lower lashes lightly if at all, since heavy product on lower lashes is where smudging most commonly starts. Mascara is a last step in makeup — apply after foundation, concealer, and eyeshadow. To remove, saturate a cotton pad with an oil-based cleanser or dedicated eye-makeup remover, press against closed lashes for 10–15 seconds, then gently wipe downward rather than rubbing.

Key ingredients

CLIO has not published a full ingredient list through our data at this time. Waterproof mascaras of this type typically rely on film-forming polymers (such as acrylates copolymers) to create a flexible, water-resistant coating around each lash, combined with waxes and resins that provide curl memory and hold. Pigmentation in a 001 black formula is generally provided by iron oxides or carbon black. Because the exact formulation is not confirmed in our data, shoppers with known ingredient sensitivities should check the full INCI list on the product packaging before purchase.

Pros & cons

  • Impressive longevity: The Superproof formula is built for all-day wear without smearing, which its 4.4/5 rating across 865 reviews supports.
  • Curl retention: The 001 Long Curling variant is specifically tuned to enhance and preserve lash curl rather than weigh it down.
  • Defined separation: The lengthening focus tends to produce clean, individual-lash definition rather than clumping.
  • K-beauty precision: CLIO is a well-established Korean cosmetics brand with a strong track record in eye makeup formulation.
  • Requires thorough removal: Waterproof formulas demand an oil-based remover; skipping this step or rubbing aggressively can cause lash breakage over time.
  • Volume is secondary: Shoppers seeking dramatic thickness rather than length and curl may find the result underwhelming.
  • Ingredient transparency: The full INCI list is not readily available through standard US retail channels, which is a drawback for sensitive-eye shoppers who vet formulas carefully.

How it compares

This mascara sits firmly in the eye-makeup category, so direct formula comparisons with skincare sit outside its lane — but if you are building out a full K-beauty routine to pair with your eye look, two frequently recommended starting points on this site are the COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence for a lightweight hydrating base that primes skin without leaving a slick film that could interfere with eye makeup, and the COSRX Acne Pimple Master Patch for overnight spot treatment that lets you apply a full makeup look the following morning without compromising coverage. Neither competes with the mascara directly, but both represent the same value-focused, ingredient-honest K-beauty approach that CLIO embodies.

The verdict

The CLIO Kill Lash Superproof Waterproof Mascara 001 Long Curling does what its name promises: it holds a curl, extends lash length, and resists breakdown through a full day's wear. With 865 reviews averaging 4.4 out of 5, it has earned consistent confidence from a meaningful number of shoppers, not just early adopters. The main tradeoffs are the removal effort that any reliable waterproof formula demands, and a formula profile that prioritizes length and separation over bold volume. For anyone whose primary complaint is lashes that won't hold a curl or a mascara that smudges before lunch, this is a well-supported choice worth trying. Go in with the right oil-based remover, and it should deliver on its core promise.

What shoppers say

★ 4.4average from 865 ratings on Amazon

Shoppers with straight, hooded, or deep-set eyes are especially enthusiastic, crediting this mascara with holding a curl from morning to night without smudging or flaking. Most describe the finish as polished rather than dramatic — lashes look separated, lengthened, and buildable without clumping.

The main caveat that comes up repeatedly is removal: the same staying power that impresses during the day makes it stubborn to take off at night, requiring an oil-based remover or extra effort. Those expecting bold, falsies-level volume may also find the effect more refined than they'd like.

NOTHING holds a curl like this mascara

I have stick straight, very average looking natural lashes. I've relied on an eyelash curler for curling both before and after mascara application to keep my lashes remotely upright throughout the day, but most of the time my efforts have been in vain. In all my 25 years of wearing mascara nothing has ever been able to do for my lashes what this mascara does in terms of lifting and curling. I'm so glad one finally exists that gets the job done and makes it no longer necessary for me to curl my eyelashes twice ( Beware: I tried that once with this mascara out of sheer habit and my lashes completely stuck to the curler and would not release. I had to very slowly and gently wiggle the curler away from my lashes and this took a while. Thankfully they weren't damaged but I could have very easily ripped them out had I not been so careful. Take my word for it, DO NOT curl your lashes again after the first coat is applied. Trust me, it is not necessary and you will regret it). I always use two mascaras. One for lengthening and one for volume (my combination before this was Roller Lash and Lash Princess). My newest and favorite combo is Kill Lash and Tarte Gifted. I apply Kill Lash first immediately after curling and voila! With a single coat my eyelashes are sky high. It is something like magic! I then apply a coat of Tarte Gifted for volume and I can't tell you how amazing my lashes look. The main takeaway in this review however is that Kill Lash is the ultimate, end all be all of lifting mascaras. There is nothing else like it. It does great things for lengthening as well, but doesn't do much in the volume department in spite of its claims to. Of course, there is a trade-off for the fantastic results, which is that it is truly and utterly "Super Proof." I'm not sure if it's Waterproof technically, but it must be given the fact that this stuff does not, DOES NOT budge. It's almost everything resistant. Believe the reviews on this. Waterproof mascaras are a breeze to remove compared to this. It's like the most strong hold Hairspray for your eyelashes you could imagine. It makes the lashes feel hard (gives no flexibility) and definitely feels like it could be drying for this reason. As long as I don't sleep in it and take care of my lashes any potential for damaging them is minimal, if not nonexistent for me. I apply castor oil to my lashes every night regardless of which mascara I use, so for me it's not a real concern. It does come off with the right product and a bit of patience. The best product for removal is a cleansing balm like the one from Good Molecules. If you don't have an emollient eye makeup remover on deck before applying this mascara, I suggest you get one because you will find yourself very frustrated trying to take it off if you don't. Do yourself a favor and have a remover on hand before you use this mascara! Not deducting a star for being hard to remove because that is a unique aspect of the formula that helps it to function the way that it does. If it were easier to remove it wouldn't have the same holding power. Please never change it!

Finally found one that actually holds a curl all day

I’ve been using the Kill Lash Superproof mascara from CLIO for a few months now, and it’s honestly the best mascara I’ve tried. For context, I have straight lashes and deep-set, hooded eyes, so most mascaras either won’t hold a curl or end up smudging under my eyes after a few hours. Even tubing mascaras, which I’ve had some success with, don’t really keep my lashes lifted and tend to come off too easily. This one is completely different. It actually holds the curl I put in at the start of the day and keeps it there. I’ve worn it for 12+ hours, and my lashes still looked lifted, which is something I’m just not used to. Normally my lashes drop within 30 minutes no matter what I do. It’s also truly waterproof. I didn’t have issues with smudging or transfer, even with long wear. At the same time, it’s not overly heavy or clumpy. The slim curved brush makes it easy to get good separation and reach smaller lashes without making a mess. Removal is better than I expected for something this long-wearing. I do need to use an oil cleanser and let it sit for a bit, but it breaks down without too much effort after that. I’m planning to try a dedicated mascara remover to make it even easier. I don’t wear makeup every day, but when I want my lashes to actually look long and lifted, this is the one I use. If you have straight lashes that refuse to hold a curl, this is absolutely worth trying.

Good for hooded eyes

I tried this mascara on a whim when it was on sale. Things I really like about it: does not flake throughout the day, achieves a pretty natural look, keeps the lashes separate, the applicator is bristled, not silicone. Con: It can be kind of difficult to wash off; however, unlike most mascaras, this doesn't damage your lashes. In fact, my eyelashes may be healthier! Despite the difficulty in removing it, it's not irritating to the eye or anything. I really like this brand and will continue to use it. My teenage daughters (who spend way more on their makeup) really like this and keep stealing it from me.

The only mascara I use.

This mascara is the absolute best. It literally lasts all day, and even pretty much all of it stays on through a nights sleep. It's almost still prefect when you wake up with it on, only a few spots to wipe off that it smudges from putting you face in the pillow. Besides that through is lasts the whole day. Not only that but it curls your lashes as well. It also is the perfect amount. The bond is just skinny enough to be able to get it on every lash well, and also the amount that comes out is not too goopy. You can keep adding layers and it still won't be too much. It's just the right amount. It's worth every penny.

Perfect for short, straight lashes

I absolutely love this mascara. I have very short, straight lashes and it gives them so much length and volume without clumpiness. It’s not going to work miracles; you won’t look like you’re wearing falsies, but it’s a great formula. It has great lasting power and doesn’t smudge around my eyes at the end of the day. I’ve forgotten I was wearing it and rubbed my eye before, and no smudging! That said, because it has great staying power, it’s also difficult to remove. Bioderma and a cotton pad aren’t going to cut it, you need a cleansing balm or oil cleanser.
